We've been doing greenhouses and other glazed structures for almost 40 years!
In 1962, our Dad, Tom Kamei started building greenhouses in Half Moon Bay and Salinas, California. My brother and I were only in high school at the time but we worked on weekends, holidays and summers. We worked the hardest and got paid the least!
This was the hey day of cut flowers. California farmers grew gorgeous Carnations, Roses & Chrysanthemums. We built the structures for them. What we learned was these indoor farmers needed high light without too much heat and humidity, good cooling and proper air movement.
Today, these pioneers of mass flower production have moved to other continents. We have grown more sophisticated in providing sleeker structures with a low shadow, condensate control system, light control shade system, natural and forced air cooling systems, soft heat with computers controlling the temperature, humidity and light levels.
Any of these applications can be custom fitted for your greenhouse. A home hobbyist can install an inside moveable curtain to shade in the summer and can be retracted in the winter to allow more light into the greenhouse. A commercial grower can have a roof that opens to full sun so plants do not have to be moved outside to be acclimated before they are sold or put out into the field.
